Hello good friends of the internet! It’s time for another La Luz exclusive tour diary update, from Marian to you. Sorry for the lapse on this front, but let’s be real, who misses a diary when they can watch a ton of fun food reviews?
Ok, let’s get down to business. We’re a mere three shows in to what will essentially be a two month long tour and so far it has already far exceeded all our expectations, thanks in large part to the shear unbridled zeal of the Canadian population. I want to send a huge hug and thank you to all the kind folks that have come out to support us the last few days. Your energy and killer dance moves have been an incredibly encouraging reminder of why we love our jobs so much. I’m talking specifically to Vancouver (laughed at our silly jokes/cheered so loud my earplugs melted), Calgary (un audience banter/general recognition of songs being played) and Saskatoon (MADE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE. TWICE). All three of you cities dance so ineffably well, it makes my heart hurt. Never stop, please.
Now on to a few of my favorite moments of tour so far:
-Chowing down on delicious Vietnamese sandwiches in Vancouver.
-Catching glimpses of assorted wildlife (skunks, buffalo, indeterminate four legged grazing creatures, goats).
-That time we saw the yellow moon rising and stopped the van on a dirt path to share a cigarette and allow the encompassing night sky to affirm our love for the road and each other.
-When Alice, who had been sitting wordlessly in the van for three hours, suddenly asserted “I can’t handle this dryness”, which we all misheard as “I can’t handle these [va]ginas”, ostensibly referring to her chattering van mates. Hilarity ensued.
-The giant and humbling mountains that coat the land between Vancouver and Calgary.
-A relatively mellow but super fun hotel party in Revelstoke, involving an acoustic jam session, miscellaneous games, and really weird TV channel surfing.
That’s it for now! Today we get to explore Winnipeg, fingers crossed that this town continues the streak of awesome shows in Canada. See you soon.
